XD3

THREE USAGE VARIATIONS

Visually, the Arai XD3 looks like a dirt helmet, with its peak, protruding chin bar, and the opening for goggles. But the XD3 adds a faceshield in the opening. And it slides up under the peak, unless you choose to remove it (which you can) and use goggles, until you're ready to switch back to the faceshield again. Additionally, a Front Lower Spoiler integrated into the edge trim minimizes wind resistance. Special note (CAUTION): Maybe this is common sense, but because of the world we live in our lawyers say that this needs to be said: The visor/peak supplied with the XD3 helmet is not suitable for high-speed use. At such speeds air catching a side or main surface of the peak may cause difficulty in returning the head to a forward and/or level position. To understand and prepare for this possible effect, you should first try to experience it at low speeds, gradually increasing speed so that you will know what to expect and determine when the peak should be removed for higher-speed riding.

TWIN-CAM SHIELD PIVOT SYSTEM

Arai has created a unique Twin-Cam Shield Pivot System that enables the shield to operate fully beneath the mounted peak. The shield stays low when raised, allowing the peak to be mounted lower, resulting in better aerodynamics and a better appearance. The shield system is also designed to allow the shield to be used alone without the peak or, as said, with the peak and no shield as desired.

SHELL CONSTRUCTION

These days, there are almost as many "revolutionary" shell-construction materials as there are new helmet brands. Arai's decades of experience, research, testing, comparison and evaluation has led us to conclude that fiberglass-based construction is best at performing a motorcycle-helmet shell's main job - spreading and dissipating impact energy through strength, structural integrity and impact-flexibility. The XD3's clc (Complex Laminate Construction) shell utilizes Arai's proprietary aerospace fiberglass technology to achieve a strong, flexible shell in a lightweight package.

ONE-PIECE LINER

Arai's EPS liner is like no other, comprised of several material densities molded into a single piece. Arai pioneered this technology more than 20 years ago and is still, to our knowledge, the only helmet offering a single-piece hybrid liner and its unique benefit: the direct-fused contact area that each EPS cell shares with it neighboring cells creates a mutual support - as one is crushed under impact, the surrounding cells assist with the energy absorption. (Liner pieces that are simply fitted or glued together cannot rely on such a high-level support bond.)

VENTILATION

Arai's quality is so singularly advanced that it reaches the world's highest level of racing, a place so technical, so demanding, that most other helmet makers can't even imagine it, let alone compete in it. The world of Formula One auto racing.

(In fact, Arai not only competes, but is chosen by more than half of the F-1 grid! Including the new 2006 world champion and three of the top-five drivers.)

One of the benefits of Arai's F-1 involvement is that we learned the best way to ventilate a helmet is to pull the hot stale air out rather than pushing new air in. (This led Arai to introduce the world's first diffuser-mounted motorcycle helmet, the RX-7 series, one of our most-copied features ever.)

As you can see, the XD3's ventilation system builds on this concept, employing a number of vents and ducts to maximize airflow in and around the helmet interior, pullingg stale air out and keeping you cool and comfortable.

DRY-COOLŪ LINER

The XD3 also features the latest version of Arai's INNOVATIVE DRY-COOLŪ LINING MATERIAL. The Dry-CoolŪ liner actually utilizes micro water cells to improve moisture and heat transfer from your head into the airflow around Arai's exclusive Space Frame Liner. Leaves your head dryer and cooler (hence the name) at the end of a long or hot ride. Dry-Cool also allows the liner to dry much faster between rides.

REMOVABLE LINER

First introduced by Arai in the late '80s, removable liners have evolved into extremely-comfortable and convenient features .The XD3's fully removable, washable, and replaceable interior comfort-liner components also permit micro-fitting of a helmet in between-size scenarios.
